About me
I am a visual artist and musician, drawn to exploring my surroundings and expressing them mainly through urban sketching and printmaking. Since moving from Algeria to Kjipuktuk/Halifax in 2022, I have become actively involved in the city’s vibrant arts scene, with highlights including Nocturne-Noisemakers 2024 and sitting on the Board of Directors at Wonder’neath Art Society. I am passionate about the creative process and how art connects people, and I am always looking for ways to share and experience creativity within the community.
Aside from art, I am a professionally trained architectural designer and technician with a master’s in architecture from l’Ecole Polytechnique d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme (Algiers, 2021) and a Diploma in architecture engineering technology from Nova Scotia Community College (Dartmouth, 2025)
Artist statement
My artistic practice found its roots with urban sketching during my time at architecture school. From drawing buildings and the city to journaling on the bus and capturing everyday moments with friends, sketching became an act of slowing down and observation.
After moving to Canada, my art began to include colour, opening a world that I was somewhat hesitant to explore before. Around this time, I was also introduced to block printing, and I immediately took to it. I found the steps of the process (carving, inking, and pressing) to be soothing, meditative, and reflective, in a way that echoed the mindful process of urban sketching.
The natural evolution of style is a journey I embrace as it gives me tools and room to expand my expressive range. My work continues to be grounded in my everyday environment and lived experiences that are translated into art that I enjoy sharing with people around me.
